Through this program, USAID will focus on water supply and sanitation infrastructure to help meet the tremendous development need for improved access to water supply and sanitation services. This assistance will also support anticipated priorities for improved water supply and sanitation under the Medium Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) presented at the 2008 Donors’ Conference.
The program will work with the Ministry of Environment and Spatial Planning (MESP), municipalities and regional water companies (RWC) to improve the quality of, and access to potable water supply and sanitation. Support to the water and sanitation sector will focus on providing basic infrastructure, complementing institutional capacity-building efforts and infrastructure programs of other donors. The program will work initially in four municipalities: Peje/Pec, Klina/Kline, Gllogovc/Glogovac and Malisheve/Malisevo, where access to potable water on the average is about 45% compared to the national average, which is 61%. IRD will partner with the three Regional Water Companies (RWC) that serve the above-mentioned municipalities: RWC Pristina, RWC Hidrodrini and RWC Hidroregjioni Jugor.
