Advancing Women’s Rights Initiative
AMP ID: 1120103510614
The overall objective of the action is that women’s and girls’ rights and interests are supported, protected, and promoted throughout Kosovo. This objective is in line with KWN’s vision, mission, and Strategic Plan. It dually will contribute to ADA’s aims of sustainable inclusive development and human security with a human rights-based approach, focused on gender equality and women’s empowerment. The action’s purpose is to improve the capacities of women-led Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) and public officials in supporting, protecting, and promoting women’s and girls’ rights and interests.
Advancing Women’s Rights Initiative project will tackle key issues in Kosovo: gender inequalities in politics, access to public services, the economy, and socially, including gender-based violence (GBV).
Key activities will include: delivering interactive workshops with follow-up mentoring for CSOs and Kosovo Women’s Lobby (KWL) members; transparently distributing sub-grants to diverse women-led CSOs, enabling “learning by doing”; facilitating networking; mentoring CSOs and officials in gender-responsive budgeting (GRB); conducting research to measure changes in awareness and incidence of GBV and implementation of the legal framework; advocating for implementation of the GBV-related legal framework; organizing awareness campaigns on GBV; and continuing support for the National Council for Survivors of Sexual Violence during the War.
Primary beneficiaries will be KWN’s 86 member CSOs, at least 230 KWL members and the thousands of women they serve, particularly rural, heads of households, uneducated, impoverished, with disabilities, young, and minority women as among the most disadvantaged in Kosovo.
Secondary beneficiaries will include other women, men, children, and public officials.
Expected results include:
1) Women-led CSOs have formed and cooperated in coalitions towards and engaged with officials in rights-based advocacy;
2) Women’s participation in politics and decision-making in municipal and national levels further increased and improved, as per the Law on Gender Equality.
3) Awareness of and attention to addressing GBV improved among officials and citizens.
