The Kosovo Police previously had marginal capacity to properly store and secure evidence collected from their investigations. This lack of adequate procedures and facilities resulted in several high profile cases of evidence being stolen or missing. The Kosovo Public Prosecutor’s Office had no capacity to store evidence. ICITAP proposed to assist the KP and Prosecutor’s Office by developing an Evidence Project to address these shortcomings. EUR/ACE had a pocket of funding that they sought proposals for in the late fall of 2009 and this project was one that was chosen. It was funded in late 2010. The project has provided all 36 local KP stations, 6 regional stations, 13 Border Crossing Points, 13 Public Prosecutor Offices and the Central KP Headquarters with state-of-the-art equipment and/or facilities to properly store, secure and preserve evidence.
